Welcome to Newick Cricket Club
The summer of 1884 saw the founding of the Newick Cricket Club, with an entry in the Wisden’s Almanack of 1885 recording a fine innings of 250 by J. Gilbert for Fletching v Newick on 27 May 1884.

The pretty village of Newick, centred in the heart of Sussex, has always been a veritable Mecca of cricket, and today Newick's Cricket Club has over 200 members, with three senior teams playing League cricket on Saturdays, Friendly games on Sundays and during the week, plus three Junior age group teams.

A highlight for cricket lovers everywhere is the annual match between the best of Newick's First Eleven and Piers Morgan’s ‘Family’ - which always includes a few ringers such as Freddie Flintoff, Kevin Pietersen, Chris Gayle and Shane Warne.  A couple of thousand spectators add to the atmosphere, where fans can mingle with the international stars .

With over 150 youngsters (including over 35 girls) coming through the coaching programmes, the future is secure - although there is always room for more, with our team of coaches who all hold ECB Level 1 or Level 2 qualifications.    The coaching team is headed up by David Whelpton, who can be contacted for Junior enquiries on 07831 840000, or on

New nets in 2017 enhance the practising capabilities, and Senior nets take place on Thursday evenings during the season. Coaching for the youngsters takes place on Friday evenings from April to July, and parents are encouraged to come along and watch - and have a glass of something while watching!

Newick Cricket Club has been awarded the ECB Clubmark, the accreditation scheme for cricket clubs. ECB Clubmark shows that a club is sustainable, well run and provides the right environment for its members. Clubmark accreditation also means the club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages, as well as assuring parents and carers that they are choosing the right option for their young people.

We have two grounds for our cricket matches, with the main one at the King George V Playing Fields, and the beautiful Temple Grove Cricket Ground for the 3rd team and most of the Junior matches.
Our Cricket Teas are renowned throughout Sussex, which is one reason why nearly all our Friendly games are at Home - by popular request!   We have a great pavilion - with an excellent bar - and spectators are made very welcome.

We are constantly looking for more players of all ages and abilities, and several of our members have taken up cricket again after a break of many years, just because they love the game!
