2017 SEASON REPORT The U11s hardball pairs team showed great enthusiasm and character, finishing 9th in their league, having competed against teams which had been playing for a year or two. This is a great little squad and they played really well as a team, improving dramatically as the season progressed.  Our U12s lost their first match but this proved to be their only loss of the season as they ran out winners of Division 3 by a clear six points. The U12s is quite a large squad and it didn’t seem to matter who played – someone always stood up to be counted. We have high hopes of this group.   Our U13s narrowly missed out on topping their league, coming second behind Portslade and ahead of Brighton & Hove on net run rate. The team is made up of U12s and U13s so they did really well this season to be near the top of Division 2.

A warm welcome to Newick CC Junior Section.

Junior cricket has flourished in the village since at least 1909 when young cricketers were guided by cricketer and Newick School Headteacher, John Oldaker.

We are privileged and proud to continue this tradition with today’s strong and thriving junior section. More than 100 years later, over 150 youngsters train with us during our popular summer Friday night coaching sessions while parents socialise in and around the welcoming bar and pavilion.

Starting with All Stars Cricket for 5 to 8 year olds, we cater for boys and girls with a wide range of experience and ability up to the age of 16. Coaching is led by our Level 2 ECB coaches: David Whelpton, Cameron Jones, William Sawyer and Scott Warren, with support from Coaching Assistants and parent helpers.

We enter teams into the South Area Young Cricket League with 2018 seeing U11, U12, U13 and U14 sides. We encourage a pathway into our senior sides, usually starting with our 3rd XI.

Our Child Protection and Welfare Officer is Mrs Fiona Barratt. She can be contacted at To see information on the ‘safe hands’ procedures we have adopted visit

We always welcome offers of help from anyone interested in supporting the club’s coaching sessions or junior teams so do please ask if you would like to be involved in any way.

If you have any questions about the junior section please email or call our Junior Section Manager, David Whelpton on 07831 840000.
